Fabula Ding

Fabula Ding is the online companion to my course ART1341 Art, Time and the Technological Imagination. The web site attempts to bring ideas about art making with technology to students with a balance of poetics and scholarly rigor.

The four cities our outlined below and each one revolves around a theme. Fabula Tempo is obsessed with time and there students listen to a televised debate about a new strategy for representing time. The also dive into a radio play in Fabula Historia; a Palace of Play in the city of games and a network of networks in Fabula Rete.

Fabula Tempo

Fabula Tempo is a city obsessed with time. The city, like any other city, has its clocks but to the outsider many may seem illegible. Some move very slowly. Some calendars look like clouds. Some time pieces align while others seem to always be in argument.

Fabula Historia

Fabula Historia is a city obsessed with stories.
Everything feels as if it was unfolded in a tale.
Walking down the streets. Going to the grocery store. Heading into work. Taking your dog for a walk. All of it seems to have a dramatic tone. An arc that is bringing you somewhere, building toward an event or resolving into a denouement.

Fabula Osuus

Fabula Osuus is a city obsessed with rules and play. Everything is a game which everyone is playing. Even the daily commute can erupt into joyful foot races and traffic jams can become brain teasers for drivers to solve together. This makes the city a place full of drama.

Fabula Rete

Fabula Rete is a city of the future. It is a network city, a city of systems.

As you approach, it appears to you as a wild and dense forest. From the periphery it is difficult to make out the edges of this place. Your instinct is to find the center of town, but quickly you realize that a network city might not have a center.
