Fabula Osuus is a city obsessed with rules and play.
Everything is a game which everyone is playing.
Even the daily commute can erupt into joyful foot races and traffic jams can become brain teasers for drivers to solve together. This makes the city a place full of drama. The endorphin rush that comes from play; the delight of victory and the anguish of loss and foundational to every day life as citizens try to balance the seriousness of play by never taking it too seriously.
Visitors and new comers can sometimes find it overwhelming, but those who live here find the rest of the world underwhelming. They sometimes travel elsewhere to find calm but are never really at peace.
Despite the games it is not always fun. In some neighbourhoods, the games that take shape are sharp and competitive. People shape their lives to the rules of the games, and everything that can be measured is measured, and then it is sized up against everything else that can be measured.
To the uninitiated the streets around those parts all look the same, but to the players who lived there the width of their driveway, the shade of green on their perfect lawn or the detailed treatment of their window awnings, all are subtle markers positioning you in a long game of neighbourly rankings. Playing fields of all kinds, from bocci to basketball, surround the grand palace of play at the very center of it all. There are games rooms upon games room with every game ever imagined and played by any culture across time. Each room housing sets of rules defining the terms by which the game will be lost or won. Citizens of Fabula Osuus wander in and out… sometimes people disappear into the palace for days, lost in a particularly transcendent match of one kind or another. The most delightful and meaningful moments of the lives in Fabula Ossus unfold here at the palace… birthdays are times for games… anniversaries… promotions at work… but also important decisions of life, love, finance, politics … all of it is best done at the palace of play.
